One of the most inspiring moments in STEAM 2018 – SpaceX and Elon Musk
I was speechless… well that is a lie. I was going nuts. I still get tears in my eyes when I look at these images. My son thinks I am a bit off the rails. However, he was not in Aerospace Eng school when the Challenger blew up. It was devastating and demoralizing. Later we lost Columbia – another punch to the throat.
Though I must give a shout out to the ISS and all of their terrific success. This post is not meant to take away from their great work.
SpaceX is right. If we are going to become interplanetary, we must learn how to lift materials and people safely, continuously and cheaply.
Now, I believe, this really puts us into the interplanetary game. Each of the SpaceX team are making history – all 6000 and as many of you know Elon Musk is one of my heroes. We still have a ways to go but SpaceX stepped up – brilliant.
I am still wound up – won’t sleep well tonight.
SpaceX Team Does it with Style
OK – Elon and the SpaceX team. You all have style. The red Tesla, the Starman, David Bowie and a big Don’t Panic. Thanks for not only doing this but also doing it with style. You showed us that you truly love the adventure of your work. SpaceX, when you watch the launches (yes I have watched them all) seems like a real team. I can only imagine what it would be like to be there, at SpaceX during a launch. Any student watching any launch would have to be sucked into what it means to be doing something you truly care about.

Every student that has heard me speak knows I believe that passion must drive your career and life choices – else you are mostly wasting time. People who work with me know I am a big proponent of hiring based on passion. Elon wears his passion on his sleeve (an homage reference to my favorite English teacher – who was blind BTW). The story of SpaceX is amazing and shows how passion drives persistence, creativity and success.
To every team member at SpaceX – thanks for all of this.
