Who is the First High School in CA to teach New Web and Mobile Application Design Course with Industry Certification?

California’s next generation of App Entrepreneurs and Developers are getting their start at Charter Oak High School Covina CA.

As part of the launch for this course, instructor Lance Gerodias invited two of the developers of the course to have a webinar with his students to talk about the App industry and how to avoid some of the pitfalls that are easy for a first-time developer to fall in to. During the web meeting the students saw a demonstration of some of the apps they will be creating as part of this new course. The students took the chance to ask questions from the seasoned veterans and learn, first hand, about the excitement, being part of this high-demand highly creative STEM career.

During the webinar, the students also learned about an international competition they may submit one of their apps or games to at the end of the semester in the hopes of bringing more honors home to COHS.

Congratulations to Mr. Gerodias and his COHS/BETA students for being the first in California to use the new Web and Mobile Application Coding and Design Course. With this opportunity comes the option of being some of the first in the nation to sit for and receive an the optional industry certification.

Charter Oak High is certainly creating an environment to prepare future-ready students with the kind of real-world education that compan

Charter Oak is home to a number of CTeLearning.com’s courses including the iVGD Coding and 3D Video Game Design course (UC a-g approved).

Charter Oak does have some bragging rights as well. Their BETA program has produced the most STEAM students with industry certifications in App Design as well as Game Design and Prototyping in the nation.

Part of what is driving this is Mr. Gerodias’ understanding of Department of Labor stats, which tell us that there will be 1 million unfilled Computer Science jobs in the U.S. in 2020. He, however, wants to give his students the chance at those jobs and to try out this high-demand STEAM career field.
